I’ve started the year by reading The Happiness Project by Gretchen Rubin, I was struck by an observation on how much time we spend having “relaxing” fun:

“adults will spend an average of 3 hours and 43 minutes each day on their smartphones, feature phones and tablets this year, eight more minutes than they’ll spend watching TV”

That’s a total of 7 hours 18 mins per day. And these figures are from 2019; both these habits can only have increased in 2020.

Other versions of fun mentioned are “challenging” (develop/try new skills or activities) or “accommodating” (for the sake of others). The data suggests these are more valuable choices (for our happiness) over time. And I would agree.
